Little green triangles

Apart from going to each cell and clicking ŒIgnore error¹ can I cancel/hide
all these green triangles in the top left corner of many cells?

And, having done something I wish I had not how can I get rid of the
annoying arrow with a blob at the other end drawing attention to my apparent
misdemeanour?

Do I really need these warnings having lived without it since the 80s

It did not happen before XL 2004 but has several times since in this
instance the offending formula is
=SUM(R[8]C:R[21]C)+COUNTIF(R[8]C:R[21]C,"1E")

Go to Preferences and Error checking. Here you can disable all background
error checking, or select the items to (or not) check. I don¹t know whether
or not you need the warnings or not. I do and find them very helpful.

What arrows and blobs? Do you have trace dependents set? What¹s wrong with
that formula? What error(s) are you getting?

Many thanks I found that right clicking the green triangle opened the
options directly (what a pity Apple has not done anything about two button
mice until recently!)

The red arrow and blob appeared to show the error between the formula cell
and the offending associated cell at the time of writing I could not get
rid of it but all is well now that I have disable all background error
checking In that sheet

I am still curious to understand why
=SUM(R[8]C:R[21]C)+COUNTIF(R[8]C:R[21]C,"1E") caused the green error
triangles

What did the smart tag tell you? Selecting the cell with the green
triangle will cause a smart tag to pop up. When you hover over the tag,
a screentip will pop up with the error, or if you click on it, the top
line will tell you what the error is - e.g., "Formula refers to empty
cells".

Yes, it was "Formula refers to empty cells".
Not sure why that was an error when there was nothing in the cell!

You answered your own question. It was a warning telling you that the
formula referred to empty cells. Nothing in the cell is an empty cell. Many
times this is an inadvertent error and the warning is helpful. If you don¹t
think so, turn the warning off as described in a previous post in this
thread.
