@live.com account

This is ridiculous, an Msn account can't be added to the Microsoft's
Entourage! They are both owned by the same company but I can't add!

But you *can* add your MSN @hotmail.com account to Entourage. So it
seems you just need a hotmail address.

You mention your address is (e-mail address removed). Do you also have an
(e-mail address removed) address?

Oh yes. I agree entirely. Microsoft should have foreseen they were going to
release @live accounts this year back in 2004 when Office 2004 was released
- or even back in 2003 when it was developed!

Come on of course not :) but they just released an update. I think it
should've covered this problem!

Is there really no way for you to use a @hotmail.com address instead?

Yes there is. But the thing is; I also have this @live.com account which is
provided by MSN that I'd like to add and use with Entourage which is also
Microsoft based application that I paid for, but I can't. This is ridiculous
now you get it?

No, I don't get it. Just because Microsoft provides it doesn't mean it's
available. With Free you get what you pay for. You aren't paying for the
ability to download into Entourage. They didn't promise you that a free
account could be downloaded into Entourage you just assumed it could. We all
know what assume means.

I don't pay for my hotmail account and I've had it and used it in Entourage
for a long time

I have a hotmail account, with an upgraded mail box -- I pay once a
year. Anyway, I also have a Hotmail account which is not expanded and
I don't pay for.

I can access the paid for hotmail account through Entourage, but not
the not-paid-for hotmail account.

So, I don't think you'll ever be able to use your hotmail account (and
@live) unless you do upgrade to some form of paid benefit.

About having used Entourage in the past for the unpaidfor hotmail
account -- seems might strange. . . Anyway, I think you lucked out
and maybe should go back to an account that isn't @live.

Diane - I have a MacBook Pro running 10.4.10 and I am also running
Entourage 2004. I noticed a problem starting last week. I was running
11.3.3 of Entourage and I was set up with two accounts in Entourage
(one POP with Bellsouth and the other iMAP with Hotmail). The POP
mail were downloading to the inbox under 'Folders on My Computer" and
the Hotmail messages were staying on their server. All of a sudden,
the Hotmail messages started downloading also, intermixing with the
Bellsouth messages in the Inbox. Essentially, they are showing up
twice.

Tonight, I downloaded the Office 2004 update to 11.3.5 and I updated
my hotmail account to 'live', still using the same account name
'(e-mail address removed)'. This did not resolve the issue. Entourage
is still treating my hotmail account like it was POP STMP and not
iMAP.

As a workaround, I have disabled hotmail in Entourage and I will
access it from my browser. I was able to delete the emails that
downloaded to my inbox in Entourage since they are also available on
the hotmail server and I don't need them crowding my inbox. I can
limp along this way until the issue is fixed but it is inconvenient.

And by the way, being able to access iMAP mail like hotmail is a
feature of Entourage and is listed in the documentation --- this is
from Entourage Help (keyword Hotmail):
"Receive messages from a Hotmail account
When you receive messages from a Hotmail account, Entourage connects
to the mail server, but does not move the messages to your computer;
the messages remain on the mail server until you delete them. These
messages appear in folders under the Hotmail Hotmail symbol account
folder in the Folders list.
1. In the Folders list, click the Hotmail account.
If the Folders list is hidden, click Folders List on the View men2. To
expand the list of folders, click the triangle next to the Hotmail
account.
3. Click the folder that contains the messages you want to receive.
4. If you did not save your account password when you set up the
account, type your password in the Password box.
Tip You can create a schedule so that Microsoft Entourage
automatically connects to the mail server and checks for new messages
when you want it to."

You must have a rule that is moving the messages. The most likely culprit is
the Mailing List Manager (MLM). It's very easy to set up a MLM rule by
accident, when you are marking a message as 'not junk'. The wording of that
dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look
for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the incorrect destination folder
as the target folder. Mailing List Manager rules run before your other
rules.

Let me know if this is the problem.

You may want to consider posting a new topic when you have a new
question, rather than replying to someone else's post in another thread
such as this one. That way everyone will readily see your post and
associate it with a new question.

Thanks for the advice. I had been looking for whether anyone else had
reported my same problem...

Diane - This is not the problem. I had only two senders with MLM.
There are nearly 10000 messages in my Hotmail account and Entourage
was downloading all of them from the server!

Hmmmm, maybe we're miscommunicating here. In Entourage there are 3 different
kinds of rules

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)

It's NOT the senders with MLM , but a MlM rule that you need to check.

Also it is typical behavior for a POP account to download all messages left
on the server. Maybe you should set it up in IMAP.
