Diane - I have a MacBook Pro running 10.4.10 and I am also running
Entourage 2004. I noticed a problem starting last week. I was running
11.3.3 of Entourage and I was set up with two accounts in Entourage
(one POP with Bellsouth and the other iMAP with Hotmail). The POP
mail were downloading to the inbox under 'Folders on My Computer" and
the Hotmail messages were staying on their server. All of a sudden,
the Hotmail messages started downloading also, intermixing with the
Bellsouth messages in the Inbox. Essentially, they are showing up
twice.
Tonight, I downloaded the Office 2004 update to 11.3.5 and I updated
my hotmail account to 'live', still using the same account name
'(e-mail address removed)'. This did not resolve the issue. Entourage
is still treating my hotmail account like it was POP STMP and not
iMAP.
As a workaround, I have disabled hotmail in Entourage and I will
access it from my browser. I was able to delete the emails that
downloaded to my inbox in Entourage since they are also available on
the hotmail server and I don't need them crowding my inbox. I can
limp along this way until the issue is fixed but it is inconvenient.
And by the way, being able to access iMAP mail like hotmail is a
feature of Entourage and is listed in the documentation --- this is
from Entourage Help (keyword Hotmail):
"Receive messages from a Hotmail account
When you receive messages from a Hotmail account, Entourage connects
to the mail server, but does not move the messages to your computer;
the messages remain on the mail server until you delete them. These
messages appear in folders under the Hotmail Hotmail symbol account
folder in the Folders list.
1. In the Folders list, click the Hotmail account.
If the Folders list is hidden, click Folders List on the View men2. To
expand the list of folders, click the triangle next to the Hotmail
account.
3. Click the folder that contains the messages you want to receive.
4. If you did not save your account password when you set up the
account, type your password in the Password box.
Tip You can create a schedule so that Microsoft Entourage
automatically connects to the mail server and checks for new messages
when you want it to."
