Loading Office XP

I have just brought a brand new laptop which has Microsoft Words on it.

I have uninstalled this.

I am now trying to get Office XP to load on it.

I load the CD, I enter the code from the media, I select the Install
(recommended) option and then my problem hits.....

A screen with a progress bar moves half way across and freezes - I believe
the text says "checking (something or other)"

After waiting a few minutes and seeing no change I hit the cancel button -
the system froze and I had to end two tasks - 1. Microsoft Office setup and
2 Office XP setup.

I turned off my laptop and tried again, this time I left my laptop for four
hours hoping that something might happen in the background.... no luck,
again I had to end the two tasks.

What is my problem. I have a virtually brand new laptop with only new
antivirus software installed (Norton 2005) but I cannot load Office XP!!!

Help anyone...please
