locking drawing canvas

How can I lock the position of a drawing canvas in a MS Word document so that
when I type new text, it is automatically positioned around this canvas
without me having to reposition the drawing?

Text can only move around an object if the object is formatted with a text flow
formatting AND there is room to either side of it for the text to actually flow.
There's no way to place an object across the entire width of the page, then have
text flow past it.
