login and domain name not remembered

We have several clients running Win XP Pro. All of which
are running office 2000 pro. On some of the machines,
when logging into Outlook 2000 it prompts you for login
credentials but fills in the user and domain...on others,
it doesn't fill in any of the fields. I would like all of
the computers to have the user name and domain fields to
populate with only the password to be entered. We are
using Exchange server 2000. What do I need to do to make
this happen?

One possibly unrelated question - is there any reason these computers aren't
joined to the domain, with all users logging into the domain instead of the
local workstation?
