login - hidden site files.

R

Robb Mavins

I have sites on different ISP' s for different topics

JUST Front page do I have this issue with.

So lets say 5 different sites - on separate ISPs

Each is on my system a separate web (In Front Page)

I never save passwords and I just made a mistake in typing my password and
now I get a return from my ISP site saying unauthorized access. I know
from past experience that this is e file that keeps supplying the old
password. and it will last for several days -- no matter what I type as my
new password

How do I delete this , is such a common FP problem, but addressed
differently in so many forums.

Hidden files ?? of so what and how to delete

If you use File | Publish Web (instead of the Publish button), you should be
able to enter the correct password.

Thank you and while I do not hit this forum as often as I should I am
using file / Publish not PUBLISH button. I am very IT comfortable and I am
so regretting investing in FP.

The issue is this (my fault) i misspelled my password (once) and the ISP
returns (whatever) I now type an error - password related so either on
my side or the server side there is a hidden file holding FP information

Multiple ISP's so this can not just be me

Robb:
When you use File | Publish Web, you should get the dialog box to enter your
username and password - are you seeing that? If so, use the backspace key to
clear out both the username and password and then type them in correctly.

Hi Kathleen: again thanks for the quick reply
Yes, I get the dialog box
Yes I reenter the username and password

Let me say that I am generally a very comfy DB (Access) type, All I am
saying here is this, I am very comfy about tech…. I know zip about Front
Page but would in general be well above the average it in terms of IT

It is not an issue from a "my machine side" and by that I mean it is not a
"cache " issue

But I have had this before, with again with multiple ISP's.

My first was indeed Tripod and I am now moving most of sites to a new
provider

This particular issue is with Shaw. - similar to those I have had with
tripod .

But and again - this must be a Front Page issue as I have dealt with
multiple accounts, multiple computers, and multiple ISP's

SO step by step

I activate FP 2002 (from office XP)

There has to be a file somewhere that holds on my machine or server, this
incorrect information’

I pull up the my webs file from either recent or open (makes no
difference)

Do you have unique logins for each account?

Publish via FP's http mode and using FTP to upload are two completed
separate function, and being able to do one has no impact on the other.

IE stores your login, if you have set to do so, under Tools | Internet
Options | Security | Custom settings.

Thanks
AGAIN
I have cleared all cache, temporary or temp files I can find

SIMPLE QUESTION: - WHAT are the hidden ini style files in FP ?

something is holding ini style information on my system or at my ISP,
for my site.

WHAT are those files ?

Yes , each account s both unique and separate.

The point about FTP: is thus - all accounts are authorized - i.e active

Do you have unique logins for each account?

R

Robb Mavins

Thanks that;s cleared and is not an issue

Yes, Thank you .... but\ my only point about FTP: is thus - all
accounts are authorized - i.e active - back to the regulat train

T

Being able to access an account via FTP has nothing whatsoever do with
access the account via FP's http mode, as two different server application
are being used, FTP server vs. HTTP server, each with their own access
permission and configuration.

Where are you seeing these .ini files?

Web Site Publishing/Access Permissions, etc. are stored in the Windows
Registry, as with most new Window Application today, info related to the
operation of a application is in the Registry.

What's cleared?

Which option do you have set under User Authentication?
If you have selected 'Automatic logon with current username and password', try unselecting it (and selecting ask for Password)

FP uses quite a few settings that are set via IE, like the Proxy settings and the Logon settings in security zones. This setting
comes from WinInet, and is set via IE
- you can also clear all passwords in IE in Content AutoComplete

| Thanks that;s cleared and is not an issue

OK , fine

What files need to be deleted that hold FP password or login information
that reside on my system.

I have recreated the FP extensions on my ISP site.

I understand your point about the different servers all I was suggesting
that I am typing the correct password.

T

Thomas A. Rowe

The login info is stored in the Windows Registry when you have done a
successful publish.

When you get the publishing dialog, as long as you use File Menu | Publish
Site, then you can change the login info.

Stefan
Thanks for the reply
As per the other post's in thread

I have auto complete disabled
FP is set to have me always enter user name & passwords, I never check the
Automatic.
(The main reason for this is that I have multiple accounts and different
ISP's, I have found it an issue in the past so I re-enter the information
each time)
I even deleted the old .pwl file just in case
I have disabled all IE proxy and security zones
I have tried it with all above and as well disabled my Zone Alarm Pro
(seldom an issue but you never know)
The issue is that I mistyped the password to my site - totally my fault but
some were the "bad" information is retained in a file

I am very IT comfortable but I do not deal with FP on a regular basis mostly
database (Access - Oracle)

Open the Registry and try a search for the domain or login or incorrect
password (if known)
