Looking for expert advice on the use of hidden text

I'm trying to explore the usefulness of hidden text for a use case that would
give to different groups of users different views on the same document.

It is not so much that we need it for protective reasons as for not
distracting writers by information that we only need in other contexts.
Nonetheless, there is a need to maintain the hidden information through the
editing/writing process.

Unfortunately, the initial experiments aren't too encouraging. Here are the
two most concerning issues (bugs?):

(1) If there is a paragraph with hidden text, followed by a paragraph with
visible text and the user places the cursor at the beginning of the visible
text, the insertion point is actually placed at the beginning of the prior
paragraph (before the hidden text). Typing pops up the hidden text, turns on
formatting marks, and text is inserted before the hidden text.

(2) In the case of a MACROBUTTON field following a paragraph with hidden
text, the useful selection mechanism of fields does not work.

Is there any experience that a can learn from?

Should I stay away from hidden text?

Does Word provide other options for my use case?

Feedback on these questions and other insights regarding this matter ar very
appreciated.
