Lose custom Animation on slides

I inserted custom animation on slides. I saved file before closing with no modification to slides. When I exited PowerPoint and reopened the file, some of the slides with custom animation were modified. It appears to center around the clipart but not in all cases

example of change that occurred on openning file: the clipart in a slide was changed to unnamed in the custom aninmation function screen and thus lost it custom animation. This occurred more on a random basis throughout presentation

Any solutions? I use PowerPoint 2003.
