Loss of data in my address book

I have a similar problem. My version of Outlook Contacts is Microsoft Office
Outlook 2003 (11.6359.6408) SP1. Anyway, I have my addresses, etc., in the
Contacts folder. I can find some of my contacts and not others. Though
we've asked it to sort alphabetically by last name, sometimes it does and
sometimes it doesn't. I was looking at one contact this morning that was
"filed" correctly. I changed the e-mail address and told it to Save and
Close. It did. Then, just for the heck of it, I looked under the first
initial of the last name--the place where the Contact had always been stored
and found. It was no longer there! I haven't been able to find it yet, but
I'm sure that "Save and Close" does not mean "Save and Destroy." So what did
Outlook do with it? My husband is as confused as I am about how Outlook
saves some things correctly but not others. YIKES! Hopefully, it did not
erase what I told it to Save--it has to be there somewhere; I just don't know
where quite yet. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi MMk,
I just had a similar "event". When i opened outlook I watched all my
addresses Disappear. I figured virus, even though Norton says my computer is
OK. I have the same version of outlook.
I deleted all of microsoft office suites and then reloaded. I tried to
repopulate outlook from my palm pilot only to have all my data in there
disappear too!!!!!

Um. I think it was the palm that did it. It's fairly common - if the sync
settings aren't right, the device will delete things

HI Dianne,
I don't follow? Data was already gone from Outlook files before the sync.
I had a back up of all data in Palm pilot and tried to upload it into new
virgin outlook that I just reloaded when the palm crashed?
