I have Office Small Business Edition 2003. I wrote a memorial for a retiree.
I saved my work. IT'S GONE. I went over and over using "open and repair."
Didn't work. Used "recover text from any file" over and over. No text.
This happened TWO TIMES where I saved text and when opening there was none.
It happened after I chose to "insert" a "border."

Any ideas on where ELSE to look or what to do?? I haven't the energy nor
creativity left to REWRITE this poem. PLEASE HELP!!

If you saved the document before starting to type and again after completing
the poem and before inserting the border (and especially if you have "Always
create backup copy" checked on the Save tab of Tools | Options), your work
would not be lost. But I'm curious as to how you inserted the border. Were
you using a page border or some kind of graphic? If the latter, is it
possible that you inserted the graphic in place of the text?

I didn't save the document before starting to type -- I never do. I inserted
the border from "clip art" and highlighted all the text for the border to
surround. Hmm. Maybe there's my answer. Did I inadvertently delete the
text???? But, then again, I DID save the text BEFORE inserting the border.
It's possible I inserted the border in place of the text but, as I mentioned,
I saved the text BEFORE so should be there but WHERE???? Where and how else
can I look??

Thank you so much.

Also, Suzanne, I THOUGHT "Always create backup copy" was checked. It wasn't
(this is a new computer and Office was installed at the factory). I should
have checked but I just didn't think of it.

Clip art is just a picture, not a border like Border Art. If you selected
all the text and then inserted the picture then you did in fact substitute
the picture for the text. Sorry.

Since you save it at least once, all or part of it should be available. Try
using Search to look for it.

In Word, click the File menu and look in the dropdown list for the file
name; it may be right there for you. If not;

Assuming the file name is 'filename.doc', try searching the entire drive
for:

filename.* or fil*.*
filename or
*.doc or
*.wbk, which may or may not exist for your file.
If you may have deleted it, check the Recycle Bin; do not empty it until
you're done looking for your file.

Once you locate the file, then you can see if it's usable or not. IF it
seems devoid of any text, check to see if the clipart isn't just covering
all the text as another poster mentioned. If it was ever saved, and you did
mention saving it once, one of those should find something.
