Hello all - i just purchased a new Macbook pro and office 2008 for mac. when i sent an email attachment in word 2008 for mac to my wife who works on a pc and has an older version of word (i think 2004), her computer couldn't recognize the document - it gave it a .dat extension rather than the appropriate .docx. when i sent in rtf she could pull it up.

what's going on here? how do we fix? thanks -

Marc

Alternatively, you can tell the latest version of Word to save the files in
the '97-2003 file format, via File|Save As.

Or, if you want to save in the old file format per default, go to
Word>Preferences, Save and choose Save Word files as Word 97-2004 Document
(.doc).
