mac upgrade from only serial number

I have misplaced my original installation disks from when I purchased
Microsoft Office 98 for Mac. I'd like to upgrade to 2004, but need to move
program to a newer computer. Can I still upgrade referering only my serial
number?

No. Still it is good to call the Microsoft Customer service. Probably they
can give you a bypass key.
You would be able to install the 2004 with this bypass key without proof for
the cd or the product key. But they might transfer you to the Tech support
also.
