Mail being checked even though Outlook is closed and exited.

Even though I have Outlook closed (exited), I seem to still get a notification on the task bar that email is arriving (yellow envelope). When I have Outlook exited, I do so because I do not want it checking mail. Is there a setting somewhere that I missed that is causing this activity? Thanks.
