Mail encoding in Entourage and Outlook for Mac (Beta-2)

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange Hi,

We have a problem with writing non English text in emails. If I write email which have Lithuanian letters in it, like( Ąčęėįšųūž ) recipient (Outlook 2007 or Apple Mail) receives this as ( Ąčę??š??ž ). This can be solved with inclusion of any spacial symbol like Euro sign ( € ). If this sign is anywhere in the email text, Entourage or Outlook for Mac (Beta-2) will send email correctly. I assume it's the same bug in same code in both apps. Will it be fixed in final version of Outlook for mac ?

If you are part of any Office for Mac beta program, you should know that
you are not allowed to talk about any of the products in a public
newsgroup, as this is a violation of the NDA. Please use the proper
feedback channel.

If you are not part of a beta program, then you are using illegal software.

Not to question the validity on your comment on the beta, but this is a very important question and one that has plagued Entourage for years. If it's still available in the new Outlook, it'll be very sad...

Since I don't know when, people trying to compose e-mails in languages other than english (like Greek), have to remember to manually go and select the encoding for the message, otherwise the recipients receive garbled text.

This has been asked and reported many times, but totally ignored.
All that is required is a simple setting of setting the default encoding when composing.

This has (at least in my company) prevented the rollout of Office 2008, and it will be very disappointing if somehow they don't manage to address it.

As Michel pointed out, you cannot post anything about a beta version of
Office out in the open without being in violation of your NDA (assuming
you signed one, if you didn't and got it illegally, well then don't
expect. To get any form of support :->)

I assume it's the same bug in same code in both apps. Will it be fixed

MS doesn't post here so you won’t get the answer you need.
If you want to make sure a bug can be corrected, you need to report it
through the proper channels to bring it to Microsoft's attention.

I'm sorry to jump in again, but it's so annoying when I see everyone just ignoring the actual problem reported.
The issue also plagues Entourage. Microsoft doesn't care, so we are trying to get some help through these forums. And yet, people's messages are either ignored, bashed at for begin posted at the wrong forum, or avoided (rightly in this case) because of legal issues.

However, the problem is there! Very easily reproduced, and apparent. Is there a solution or not?

No one is ignoring it.
There are two ways to get the attention of MS on a bug:
- with a regular version of Entourage: use the Send Feedback command in
the Help menu
- with a beta: use the dedicated channels indicated to you when you
were granted access to the beta.

Well you have to take in consideration that when it is a bug, no one
here might have a solution or workaround. Remember that this is a
peer-support forum.
MS doesn't come here. We're all simply users...

The problem here is very different. We are talking about bugs in a
pre-release of Office that are under strict NDA (Non Disclosure
Agreement) and that can never ever ever be discussed in public.

there a solution or not?

Not that I know. Did you report it using Send Feedback??

FWIW, I just escaladed the issue myself through contacts I have with MS
to make sure they had a proper report in their hands,

Thank you for that.
I have tried the procedure you outline myself, and a know of a few other people that have, with no result.
Let's hope this time someone will pay attention this time.

Thanks again,

They usually don't reply to the feedback they receive through that, but
it doesn't mean they don't p[ay attention.
Sometimes, the matter is prioritization and the cost of implementing a fix :-\
