Mail failures in Office 2007 after upgrade

We recently upgraded from 2003 to 2007. On several machines we have mail
problems. In Excel if we try to send, we get the "A General Mail failure
occurred". In Word, we get the "Word couldn't send mail because of a mapi
failure". In both instances, Outlook crashes. I have seen the posts about
fixmapi as well as the registry settings. My registry settings appear to be
correct and the fixmapi did not correct the issue. This is extremely
frustrating as I've seen many references to this problem but no resolutions
that have worked. I actually installed Office 2007 sp1 and that didn't help.
I also did a repair of the installation and that didn't resolve it either.
