Mail merge error message

Bob

When I try to open data source, edit publication, etc. in
Mail merge, I keep getting this message: Mail merge cannot
continue.
I have removed and reloaded Office 2000 (I have Publisher
2000), and that doesn't help. What can I do?

Try updating your MDAC components from www.microsoft.com/data

I did as suggested, installing MDAC 2.8, with no change,
still get the error message. What next?

I have installed the latest MDAC from the webpage you

Please note my second message: installed the latest MDAC
from Microsoft but still have the problem. In other words,
my Publisher 2000 is useless!! Please respond with some
help or just tell me you don't know what to do! This is my
third try!

The error "Mail merge cannot continue" is the only one
that comes up and appears while in Publisher 2000 when I
try to edit or call up data base. The list or document is
actually in Access. Does this help? Can you help me?

If you told us what version of Windows you are using and more information
you may get somewhere.

You also don't tell us what type of file you are trying to merge

You also don't state if you have applied all the Office 2000 updates which
includes the Publisher 2000 update.

How do you expect proper assistance when you don't assist yourself by giving
all the necessary information.

Trust me, we know how to fix everything if you give the correct information
necessary to help you.

I use Windows 98, Publisher 2000. I have downloaded the
latest MDAC at Ed Bennett's suggestion with no change. I'm
not sure what other downloads you are referring to? When I
try to bring up a list which was created in Publisher, I
get this error message: "Mail merge cannot continue".
Although the file is created in Publisher, it is located
in Access. This situation has just started occurring;
don't know what has happened to make the message appear.
Could you please direct me to the web page that show me
the Office 2000 updates? Any other suggestions?

Bob export the data from Access to CSV (Comma Separated Values) and you will
(or should not) have any issues.

The Merge in Publisher is pretty basic and does not accept all the
formatting and other features from Access.

You are better using a super sophisticated database like MS Works 4.5a with
Publisher as it gives *NO* issues.

If the MDAC updated components did not help and the JET engine update, make
sure you have all the current updates of Internet Explorer as it also has
components that affect the Merge in Publisher.
