Mail Merge Recipient Lists

N

Nancy Kafer

I have a Word document that references an Access database to obtain
recipients. When I try to edit the recipient list the "Edit" button is
grayed out. I have checked the properties on the document as well as the
database. I don't see any permission problems and the database doesn't show
as read only. I tried exporting the database to an Excel spreadsheet and
then using that as my recipient list but I still can't edit the recipients.
I also tried creating a new letter with the Excel spreadsheet as the
recipient list but that doesn't allow me to edit my recipients either.

What could I be missing?

Thanks.

Nancy

You need to use the DDE method if you want to edit the data in Access.

In Word go to Tools/Options/General and turn on "Confirm conversion at
Open". Then select the Access database again and when prompted select
the DDE method.

FWIW if you do select the Edit command it will open the Access table
for editing the record. IOW, this is no different than making your
edits directly in Access.
