mail merge wizard

I have created a newsletter for print but I am unable to mail merge the
addresses. When I go to tool mail merge the mail merge wizard along with the
insert fields options are greyed out. This is so frustrating. Can anyone
help? By the way, if I open a blank document the mail merge wizard is
available.

Help!
