How can I create a custom search folder that only displays mail
received in the last 12 hours? There must be a formula for it, but I
can't find it.

Outlook 2003 has grouping to show by day, by week, etc. You didn't
mention WHICH version of Outlook that you have.

Is there a reason you cannot use the Filter feature when customizing a
view?
