Mailmerge to Outlook 2003 from Word 2002

I have upgraded to Outlook 2003 as a hosted service. I tried an e-mail merge
from Word 2002 and found that it does not work when you try to use HTML as
the type. You can use Plain text or attachment and get the message that
something is trying to send e-mail on your behalf, etc. Click Yes and the
e-mails go. When using HTML it appears to go but nothing is actually sent.
Is this a backwards compatibility issue?
