maintaining the page set up

Almost everytime I open up a doc the page set up is changed. The doc started out as an Office 2004 doc, and now I'm using Office 2008.

How about accurattely describing exactly what it is that has changed --
nobody here can see what you're referring to & "page setup" not only covers
a lot of variables but also means different things to different people. It's
also a good idea to specify your exact update level of Office & OS X.

What happens is, when I save the 04 doc (.xls format) into a 08 doc (.xlsx format) and then close and re-open, the page set up changes to letter, not the tabloid page size I had originally set when it was an 04 doc.
I'm on an Inter iMac (3.06GHz, 4 GB SDRAM, running 10.5.7). Sorry I wasn't clear before.

thanks, Randy

That's a little clearer but you've still neglected to indicate one key piece
of information -- your current update level of Office 2008. That's one of
the most critical pieces to the puzzle any time there are problems.

I'm guessing that you aren't fully updated. Earlier versions did have a
problem retaining page setup information, but this was corrected [AFAIK] by
the SP2 (12.2.0) update. That's the first thing to check. If you aren't at
that level I'd suggest you run Help> Check for Updates & also get the later
12.2.1 afterward. Repair disk permissions & restart afterward.

I have now updated with both updaters, 12.0.0 and 12.2.1. The same issue is there. Open an originally built excel doc (fron office 04) save as a new office excel 08 doc., and my tabloid pages are gone and its back to letter size. If I change the page setup back to tabloid...save, and then open again in Office 08..pages are again back to letter size.

Thanks, Randy

I am having a similar issue. My excel spreadsheet is saved on "landscape" but
every time I close it and open it up again it reverts to "portrait." Even
changing it back to "landscape" in page set-up causes my worksheet to fit
differently in the print area and I have to resize everything time and time
again. It is very frustrating.
I have a MacBook (Mac OS X Version 10.5.7) and am using Microsoft Excel 2008
for Mac 12.2.1.
Can anyone help or should I start a new thread? I'm new to this.
Thanks,
Andrea

Sorry for taking so long to get back but in the meantime I have tested here
several times. I have not been able to repro the problem

I'm running Office 2008 (12.2.1) / Excel (12.2.0) on both an G5/Tiger &
Intel/Leopard system. I've also experimented with both old & new .xls files
as well as .xlsx files. Either file type on either system retain their Page
Setup specifications, so I just don't know what to suggest other than
confirming that you also have the most current printer driver. Check the
mfr's web site to be sure.

I do have an inquiry into MacBU but it may be a while before I hear back.

I noticed that you did start a new thread which is the right thing to do :)

See my reply to rkrandy I this thread, but post anything further on your
issue to that thread rather than this one... You never know when "similar"
issues will start to diverge & it gets confusing when you try to carry on
two conversations at the same time.

Hi Bob-

I'm having the same problem. I have a MacBook Pro, and am running Excel
12.2.0. I am working with a new .xlsx file I've created. Each time I save
the document, or if I go into the page setup options, say to change a small
thing like the wording in a custom footer, and save and close out of page
setup options, my settings get changed from landscape at 80% size, to
portrait and 100% size, and the box indicating that I'd like the page to be
printed in black & white gets de-selected. But it seems most everything else
remains the way I had it (margins, etc).

Thanks.

Please don't tack "me too" messages onto existing threads initiated by
another user... Especially one which has been inactive for more than a
month. If the suggestions there haven't resolved your issue the
circumstances must be *different* even if the symptoms are similar. Not to
mention that much may have changed in the meantime :)

Post a NEW message rather than a REPLY. In addition to your Office version
info you need to include the exact OS X version & update level. That way:

A) Your posting is more likely to be read by those who are no longer paying
any attention to the old message,

B) It enables focus on your specific circumstances without having to wade
through the irrelevant content of the other conversation,

C) Others seeking help who visit the conversation in the future will be more
likely to benefit from a well-focused discussion of the issue.

Thanks,
