How do I make text bolder than the tool bar allows using word 2007?

Acquire fonts with heavier weights. A few font families, such as
Univers, have a large variety of weights. Look through font catalogs
to find the ones you like. Quite a few fonts can be downloaded free
(though as for quality, sometimes you get what you pay for).

If you select the text, then the drop-down arrow on the Fonts tab, you'll see a dialogue box with a 'character spacing tab'. Try
increasing the scale to, say, 125% and reducing the character spacing by, say, 1pt. Play around with these two variable till you get
the effect you're after.
