Manually modify baseline values

Hi everyone.

I have this situation: I manually modify the baseline duration for a task. I
did it "accidentally" because I didn't know I could do that. After that I
made some changes and then saved the project.

The problem now is that I'm not sure about the original baseline duration.
How do I recover it? How to prevent user from doing this? 'Til today I
thought that baseline values couldn't be modified.

Can you revert to a backup file?

Yes, you can change baselines.

What I do is everytime I save a baseline, I save a copy into a named
interim baseline. That way I can always go back and see previous
baselines. I also take and keep a backup copy of the MPP on every
change. That way when a mistake made (which since people involved it
can happen), easy to to back to a "good" version.

By the way: I did it directly from de Baseline Duration COLUMN.

Yes, baseline values can be modified manually, as this can be very useful.
Let's say you have a task and you agreed with your customer that you have 20d to perform it. You update your plan and save a baseline.
Once the baseline is set, you define your internal milestones and feel that you can do the job in 15 days. One day later, the customer informs you that you have 25d time to do the job.
Now you can't use the 'Set Baseline' feature to update your baseline, so you can do it manually...

It is not possible out-of-the-box to prevent your users from modifying the baseline manually. You might try using a macro, but that's not going to be an easy job.
If you are using Project Server 2007, you might want to play with the 'Protected Baseline' feature. This prevents unauthorized from modifying the baseline (manually or using the Set Baseline feature).
