Many problems with office

S

SAM049

1) Whenever I open an office application (Word, Excel, etc) it takes
anywhere from 2 - 5 minutes to open because Office is "Preparing to install"
and then "Wait while Windows configures Office Enterprise 2007" (and then
only in Excel get a window that pops up and only says: "stdole32.tlb" I
click OK - the only option I have) and and then a MS Office Window opens
that goes through the Configuration Process (EACH time I open, Word, Excel,
etc - which takes 2 - 4minutes), what can be done to fix this?

I have done all of my Windows Updates, have tried 'repairing' Office, I also
un-installed and re-installed Office 2007 which lead to more problems.....

2) After re-installing, all of the files in my folders are no longer Office
documents. I have to right click any file that I want to open and go to
"Open with Microsoft Office Word" - for example. This only works for the
..doc, .xls files, not the 2007 version of the files.

3) Something that might be related is that when I am trying to download an
attachment I do not have an option to save it as Microsoft Word (or any other
type of Office document), even though the file is sent to me in the correct
format.

Can anyone help me with this? I have looked through many discussion forums
and there is no consistant action that I should take and I don't want to do
anything wrong!

PLEASE Help! I am in the last month of school and need my files!!!

Thank you very much for reading this and providing any tips :)

Thanks Peter, but the link specifically says: "We recommend that you do not
use this utility with 2007 Office system products." Do you have any other
suggestions for me to proceed?

Thank you.

While not recommended, it is very effective if used with caution.

I have used it several times both during the beta of Office 2007 and
afterwards without issue.

Hi Milly,

Can you please elaborate, what precautionary measures should I be taking?
That 2nd link sent to me did not have instructions for Vista, so I have not
been able to do anything.

I read on another online forum to un-install Office and "deleted all
references to microsoft office and its applications in the registery file
using regedit from"run" command" and then re-install.

Do you agree to go ahead with this? If so, would you be able to be more
specific on how to delete office references from the registry?

Thank you!

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility does all of the required registry work
for you. If you are thinking that tinkering in the Registry is a safer bet
than using the utility, you have it backwards.

You always take the change of mucking something up by hitting delete too
quickly, especially when trying to clean up a major installation like
Office. The CUI does a better job of it. And much safer.

Thank you Milly.

Are you saying that I should go to the link that Peter provided and download
that specific program (where the 1st link said not to use it with Office '07
and the 2nd link did not provide instructions for Vista OS).

At the risk of repetition, would you mind giving me the link again?

Thank you!
