Master Project Resource Names

I have a Master Project with about 30 sub projects linked into it. In MS
Project 2003 I could assign a resource name in the resource name column. Now
that I have brought this file into MS Project 2007 these resources do not
appear in this column and I can not input any data into this column.

Anyone else having this issue with a master project?

Hi McCormick,

How did you create your master project?

I have just done a quick test with a master project created by opening a
resource pool file and creating a consolidated master in that manner,
and I cannot reproduce the issue you report. I see the list of
resources in the resource name field.

I also tried creating the consolidated project by inserting the sharer
files into a new project. When I expanded the sharer files, I got the
question about opening the pool file. If I choose "yes" and open the
resource pool file, I can see all resources from the pool file. If I
choose "no" I can only see resources assigned in the current project--
no other resources are listed, but in both circumstances, I can still
see and assign resources.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I don't use any resource pools. The resources for each job other than a PM
are independent of each other.

I created the Master project in MS Project 2003 by inserting the projects
into a blank project. From there I just assigned the PM's as resources with
33.33% of their time spent on each project. Now that I moved to 2007 I open
the same file and all my resources disapear.

Any other thoughts?

Hi McCormick,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I have tried to reproduce what you
report with the following steps:

Create several project files in MS Project 2003, each with their own
resources.

Create a consolidated project file in Project 2003 by inserting each
project into a master project. The project files are linked into the
master. Save the master in Project 2003.

When I open the consolidated master in Project 2007, I still see the
resource names in the Resource Name field in the Gantt chart. I can
select other resources from the project through the drop-down. I can
create new resources.

Do you get any error messages from MS Project?

Sorry, I know this doesn't help, but so far, I am unable to reproduce
what you are seeing.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you Julie,
Maybe I will just try rectreating the master project again being that
doesn't take up to much time.

Thank you again.

You're most welcome. Sorry I couldn't come up with a fix. If the
problem persists in the newly created master, do let us know.
