Max unit % not carrying over to task assignment

I have resources that have assigned max units (40%, eg). When I assign the
resource to a task it defaults to 100% rather than the assigned max units.
What is causing this behavior?

I have tried the Assign window, the resource dropdown on the task, the
resource split window as different ways to assign and they all default to
100%.

It there a setting somewhere that I am missing?

Hi Mike,

If you have set the resource's max. units to 40% that is what should
be assigned by default. Did you contour the resource's max units
using the Resource Information dialog box? Double click on the
resource's name and check the "Available from and to information". Is
the resource coming from an Enterprise Resource pool -- are you using
Project Server?

What version, including service pack are you using?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Project 2003 SP2/ Not project server / No resource pool
I did not specifically contour the resource allocation, just let it default.

Thanks Mike. When you assign resources, are you letting Project
calculate the work or have you input work on the tasks already? If
you use Fixed Duration tasks and the Task Duration = Work, Project has
no option but to calculate resource assignments at 100%.

I suggest working with the split screen and seeing what is going on
with the relationship between task duration, resource work, and
assignments.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
