I have a trial version of teacher edition office professional 2003 on my new
laptop. I have a student purchased version of office professional xp on my
other laptop and want to use it on this machine. Can I do that?

Not unless you remove it from your laptop first. XP STE was one licence per
system (you couldn't install it on a desktop and a laptop like retail
versions). The 3-system policy was only introduced with 2003.
