Merge Key Problem when Importing into Master Project

I have a Master Project file which has many Sub Project files attached to it.
I export Task data to Outlook, users report the on the Tasks in Outlook, and
then the Tasks are imported back into the Master Project file using the
Unique ID as the Merge Key. I also select to ‘Merge the data into the active
project’. But Project is not merging the Tasks based on the Unique ID – all
it is doing is creating new tasks, and for some imported tasks it is
attaching the information to the ‘Inserted Project’ task/row.
I have used this exact process for updating Tasks in a single Project file
and it has worked fine! It only seems to be a problem when importing into a
Master Project.
