Merging 2 project files

Bill Stone

I have 2 "MS Project 2003" files (.mpp) that were done by different people
that I want to combine into 1 file.

How do I do this?

Bill there are two ways I know of.
One is to copy and paste from one project to another. I would check all the
task canendar assignments and resources after this is complete. Also check
the end dates.
The second is easier buy you can not make logic ties between projects. Go to
Insert>Project and pick the project you wish to bring in.
Hope this helps.

Hi Bill,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Open both projects, select one and copy all the tasks. Select the other and
paste. Then sort out the anomolies:)

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for the 2 replies.

I was in a hurry to finish my post before I left work, so I did not fully
explain the situation. I was concerened that only the data shown on the
screen (Gantt Chart view) for each task was being copied. And other data, ie
constraint types and dates or any custom data fields, were not.

I wanted to make sure there is not a more direct way to Merge projects.

Thanks again

If you click and drag across the column headings you want, then copy and
paste, it might meet your requirements.

Dear Mike,

I have tried to merge projects together. However, the resources are
separated even their names are the same. Could you please help as I want to
see the overall resources after merging projects? I will then know more
about all the human resouces for assignment jobs if they can be consolidated
after projects are merged. Thanks.
