MERGING INTO PUBLISHER 2000 FROM WORD 2000

Zack

Hello,
I want to create a data table in Microsoft Word 2000
so that I can send the table data to Microsoft Publisher
2000. I want to set up 54 code names to be used as ROW
headers for table data so I can mail merge into Microsoft
Publisher 2000; but, Word 2000 is forcing me to make the
headers as COLUMNS. I don't want column headers. I want
row headers.

So, does Publisher 2000 allow correct reading of data
from Word 2000 if the Codes are put into the Word 2000
table going down the page and not across the page. I need
the codes to go down the page. It is used for Crossword
Puzzle data.

**EXAMPLE I WANT**

WORD 2000 TABLE
====================================================
CODE Puzzle Puzzle Puzzle Puzzle
NAME 1 2 3 4
---- ------ ------ ------ ------
A1 data data data data
A6 data data data data
A11 data data data data
D1 data data data data
D5 data data data data
D10 data data data data
====================================================

I want to use Microsoft Word 2000 because I can preset
the text line formatting with paragraph line points before
certain lines. I don't know how to do that with Microsoft
Access 2000. I want the preset line formatting to show up
in Microsoft Publisher 2000 without having to do it by
hand after a merge.

Help Please,
Zack (e-mail address removed)

No, forget it.

Get a proper program to do what you want like Filemaker www.filemaker.com
You are trying to use a Pinto to do the job of a good Isuzu truck.
Sign up to the Filemaker listserver here:
LISTSERV.DARTMOUTH.EDU
You will be amazed what a proper database program can do.
MS Access is the proverbial dog of a product in every way.

Because you are merging from a data source, you need to have it set up like
a database. The fields need to be arranged along the top and the
information arranged in rows.
I would suggest using Microsoft Access if you have it, otherwise use Excel
and export as a CSV.
