Message sits in Outbox for days

I sent a message when the network was down; it was put in the Outbox. When it came back up, the message did not send automatically, it just sat in the Outbox. I found it today and sent it manually.

Is this normal? Is there a setting to make Outbox messages send automatically when the network comes back up???

Thanks,

jv

There are a number of ways to send messages that are sitting in the outbox:
you can send them manually, or you can click the Send/Receive button. You
can also set up a schedule that automatically sends any messages in the
outbox at a time interval defined by you. If you need any help with
schedules, just post back. Unfortunately, there is no way to have Entourage
send these messages automatically as soon as your Mac is connected to a
network.

Thanks! If you can give me a hint as to how to schedule sending of the Outbox, I will set it up.

Thanks,

Go to Tools>Schedules and either set up a Send Only schedule or make sure
that the Send and Receive All schedule is active. In either case set the
schedule to run at a frequency that works for you. (My Send and Receive All
runs every 30 minutes.)

Thanks, Ed. Here's a confusing thing. I looked at tools.schedules and found "send and receive" not checked. However, my mail just shows up in my inbox anyway. Why is this?

This is most likely because you are using an IMAP or Exchange account. If
you use one of these account types (as opposed to POP), Entourage will
automatically refresh any folder you select, i.e. retrieve any new messages
in the inbox as well as other folders.

Michael,

Entourage 2004 does NOT automatically update IMAP inboxes unless either
1) a schedule runs; or
2) you select the IMAP inbox when it was not previously selected.

However, jviss's original post showed that he was using Exchange, as you
suspected. Entourage DOES automatically check for Exchange mail without a
receive schedule, as you pointed out.

jviss's problem was that his mail would not send, and for that he or she
needs to check the Send and Receive schedule.

Hi Ed,
2) you select the IMAP inbox when it was not previously selected.

That's exactly what I wrote. Here's the relevant sentence: "Entourage will
automatically refresh any folder you select, i.e. retrieve any new messages
in the inbox as well as other folders."
jviss's problem was that his mail would not send, and for that he or she
needs to check the Send and Receive schedule.

I'm confused. Isn't that exactly the information that I gave him/her?

Hi Ed,

automatically refresh any folder you select, i.e. retrieve any new messages

Yes, you wrote this part, but not part 1 -- Send and Receive also gets IMAP
messages, which is what jviss expected.
I'm confused. Isn't that exactly the information that I gave him/her?
Yes, in your first message, but not in the second. Since jviss was using the
web interface to the group, his/her reply didn't include your earlier
message, and I didn't go back to look at it until you asked.

Sorry if I caused confusion rather than clarity. :-(
