Messages don't appear until you switch folders

In Outlook 2003 when new email arrives, the mail is not
displayed in the Inbox until you switch to a different
folder, and then the inbox fills up. This only happens in
Outlook 2003 on Win XP PC's. If you open the same mail
account on an older PC with Outlook 2000 installed
everything works fine. Any ideas? I have tried removing
all the mail notification options and filters, but it
still occurs.
