Microsoft advises no email scan?

I am getting Outlook email timeouts so I looked up the Outlook error
message. The Microsoft solution is to switch off email scanning in
Norton and McAfee.

Does this leave me vulnerable or do the anti-virus programs pick up
the virus anyway?

They pick it up anyway. Also if you have Outlook 2000 with the security
update, Outlook 2002/XP or Outlook 2003 the automatic execution of any
script is blocked.

This doesn't seem true to me - we have NAV enterprise edition and we have
noticed the same thing. When we updated the latest virus defs, they didn't
catch Novarg in a user's email folder. We are finding more and more people
with POP3 timeouts because of this problem with the NAV snap-in. I read the
same article on MS's site about turning off the email scan.

Is there a fix for this? I would rather not turn off the email scan - that
could leave hundreds of our users vulnerable.

Note that having a virus and being infected by a virus is a completely
different thing. When the user opens the Novarg "attachment" the
virusscanner will kick in.
