Have a look at these setup instructions on the Entourage Help Page. They
assume you are using Entourage 2004 and not an earlier version.

Bill,

Thanks..

I followed the exact same instructions but I can not get connected to
the server. I am pretty confident that I have the accurate "server"
and "public folder" names. I have also tried connecting through my PC
and it works. So it can not be my password nor my log-in ID... Any
other hints?
Some wise man told me that the server admin might have blocked the
SMTP port and without it the Entourage won't work. Does this make
sense?

Hi Parviz!

You can connect to an Exchange Server with a Mac via three protocols:
POP/SMTP, IMAP and WebDAV. The instructions that I provided you are for
WebDAV and do not use either of the other protocols.

Verify with your admin that you -aren't- using POP/SMTP or IMAP. I doubt
that you should be.

Test your WebDAV connectivity by attempting to view your account via a
web browser. You should be able to open Safari, Firefox or another
browser and enter <http://server.domain.com> and access your email. If
not then your Exchange Server administrator needs to enable the server's
WebDAV services in Exchange. (I'm not quite sure of the setting but
hopefully your admin will understand.)

And I wouldn't put much faith in that wise old man. ;-)

Hope this helps! bill

The PC uses MAPI to connect to the server and your Mac uses WebDAV.
Things that work in one environment might not work on the other.

The easiest is to use your web browser to connect to the Outlook Web
Access apge on your Mac.
Once you're in, copy the URL and use it in Entourage (the entire thing)
as your server address.
For the public folder, paste the same link and replace "exchange" with
"public".

it makes sense for Entourage X only. Entourage 2004 doesn't use SMTP to
send mail.

(Entourage X needs to connect through IMAP which is a diffrent problem
altogether. What version of Entourage ar you using ?? I simply assumed
2004.....),

I followed your instruction and this is what I got"

"Logon Failure"; "Your username/password or security settings maybe
incorrect".

Could this have anything to do with my:

1) Network setting in Preferences"?
2) Or my "LDAP" configurations?

I can obviously log on through my web browser. And I can not go to my
network admin because they do not want me to use my Mac at work.

I have the PC working fine through Outlook though.

Again your help is appreciated..

I am still getting the "log on" error" which can't be since I can
connect through my browser. I have my PC through Outlook working fine
too.

Could it be that my netwrork settings are not accurate or my "ldap
server" is not good?

I can not go through my network admin since they do not want me to use
my mac at work.

Appreciate your support.

Thanks

No, I doubt it.
It could be that you are trying to connect over http on a server that
requires https. Does your webmail address go over https??
Did you double check that longin, password and domain were correct in
the settings?

Well, Outlook uses a different protocol so that doesn't help,

Yes it goes through https..

Yes.. more than 10 times so far.. with all kinds of variations
possible

Great. THat simplifies what we have to check then.
I assume it's up to date (all updates applied to 12.3.4)
Yes it goes through https..

Did you check the checkbox saying that it has to go over SSL?
Also, when you connect through Safari, do you get a warning telling you
that the certificate cannot be trusted? If it is the case, you need to
get the certificate, and double-click it o the Finder to get it to be
imported in the X509Anchors.
Only then will the server be trusted and will ENtourage be able to
properly authenticate.

You can get the certificate yourself actually. In Safari, you get the
warning about the certificate and if you click to see the details, you
see a nice little icon representing the certificate sent by the server.
You can drag this certificate to the desktop.

Reader confirms link between non-roman spam and Entourage login
problem

April 26, 2007

Jeremy Matthews confirms a report from earlier this week that email
containing non-roman characters cause Entourage login failures with
Exchange Server. Matthews says:

We've seen this before, and its definitely caused more than a few
problems within Entourage.

The fix is on-par with our solution: delete non-roman spam.
Unfortunately, this usually means going through pages and pages of
spam and deleted items and sometimes an inbox or two in webmail
(Outlook Web Access).

Best thing you can do is to find out the exact date they began
having difficulties/errors, and purge non-critical emails (in any
folder) during/after that date.

We've seen a variety of problems stemming from this. A real pain.

Sheraz Daya has a somewhat different workaround, but related to email:

Since my last communication I have discovered that removal of all
email from the Inbox and transferring these to a main folder (not a
subfolder of the InBox) seems to rectify the problem for a while. When
the problem recurs, I again transfer all messages out. This suggests
that there really it is a received email message in the Inbox that
causes the problem.

Readers have previously offered a number of workarounds and fixes,
including deleting email or deleting user accounts. (See our Entourage
Reports page.)

Did you ever get the warning about the certificate in Safari?? It almost
sounds like Safari granted you a temporary acceptance of the certificate
that was later dismissed when you quit the app.

If the certificate is emitted by the server and if it's not in your
keychain, you'll have to import it sooner or later,

You are right. Once the app (Safari) is up and running I am good. By
the way I was never prompted by the server about the certificate. How
can I go get it manually if there is no prompt?

Thanks

On the top right corner of the window, you can see a little lock once
you're in the site.
Click the lock to see the certificate. From there you can drag the icon
of the certificate in the window and drag it to the desktop to import it
in the X509ANchors.
