"Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 or later must be installed to block unsafe expressions...." ???

P

(PeteCresswell)

Rebuilt my system last week.

Since then, when I run Access 11, I get the following two dialogs:
=======================================================
"Security Warning: Unsafe expressions are not blocked.
Do you want to block unsafe expressions?"
=======================================================

(click "No")

=======================================================
"Security Warning: Unsafe expressions are not blocked.
To block unsafe expressions, Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 or later must be
installed.....""
"Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 or later must be installed to block unsafe
expressions without affecting common functionality."
=======================================================

Reading the second dialog, it sounded like the service pack can be D/L'd from
http://WindowsUpdate.com... but when I got there, first it won't talk to Mozilla
and then, when IE was pointed at it, there seemed tb no way to just download the
SP.

Only option seems tb windows auto updating.

But I already have that in place and it's been doing it's thing since
I rebuilt the system last week.

Actually, I have something that I have labeled as "Jet Service pack 4.0 for XP
(WindowsXP-KB829558-x86-ENU).exe left over from prior builds.

But when I try to execute it, it says
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Setup has detected that the Service Pack
version of this system is newer
than the update you are applying.
There is no need to install this update"
--------------------------------------------------------------

Indeed, the file's props dialog says "File version: 5.3.23.4" and that's a lot
less than 8....if, indeed, it refers to the SP level...

Bearing in mind that I already have "Windows Update" installed and running since
day 1 of the build, does anybody got a suggestion for my next move?

MS handicapped MS Access

there are 2 million distinct excel macro viruses-- why doesn't excel
prompt people 3 times

_SERIOUSLY_

I call for MS to stfu and to make MS Access open source

until we get the power to fix these goddamn bugs-- MS can ****
themselves
since they're obviously not serious about the database market

There are many versions available on this page, are you sure that you have
downloaded the right one?

I'm not sure what I had for *breakfast*.... -)

But I do recall at least trying to make sure I got the "XP" version.

If/when I can backtrack to the page, I'll give it another shot.

Maybe running the MDAC Utility Component Checker could give us some
information here. You will find this utility at the top of the MDAC
downloading page.

In your case, forget about the MDAC and try installing only the Jet 4.0
Service Pack 8 for Windows XP.

Do you have WinXP or WinXP-64 bit?

In your case, forget about the MDAC and try installing only the Jet 4.0
Service Pack 8 for Windows XP.

Makes sense bc one would think that SP2 would include the JET service pack.

I did that again and now I'm getting:
-------------------------------------------
KB829558 Setup Error
Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of
this system is newer than the update your are applying.

There is no need to install this update.

Looks like that we may have misinterpreted the signification of
the error message. Here's the probable right solution for you:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HA011071331033.aspx

The error message containing a notice about the required
installation of Jet SP8 seems to me as very confusing.

I doesn't have anything to do with Jet 4 SP8, as you can get the
message even when you've got Jet 4 SP8 (or higher) already
installed.

yes. this error message is a SYMPTOM of how Microsoft has been
handicapping MS Access.

Excel is the real threat--- why don't we try prompting those
spreadsheet dorks THREE TIMES?

what the **** I want to know who designed this; who was the PM that
allowed this handicap to go out
