Microsoft office 2003 slow when on network

i initialy noticed this in Access but i wasn't able to get a response
so i thought perhaps i would broaden my audiance since it seems to
happen on other office products.

when i do stuff in many of the office products i find that there is
this huge lag time. everything from opening the start menu to running
custom functions. my bosds had done a test with some of his custom
software that when run from access it would take 4.5 minutes to
process.

here is the interesting part. disconnect from the network and run it
it takes .5 minutes or less to do the same opperation. nothing is
being accessed on my end over the network. local install, local files,
no networked drives or printers. only connected to network to check
mail (i don't use outlook or any other microsoft mail program) but
office is doing something with the network and probbaly stops because
of a time out.

any ideas?? thanks for any help that can be offered.

Are you working strictly on a Microsoft network or is it a mixed environment
like Novell/Microsoft and you have the Novell client installed?

strict TCP/IP network just enough to surf the web and check email. i
am sure that the standard microsoft netoworking is installed. but
nothing i am doing should be accessing the network. since all of the
resources are local and none of the functions i am using should need
the network. except perhaps MS Office but i don't know why. this
speed problem also does occur on multiple networks. my bosses, my
office(i did concider all the extra junk the university does but the
other 2 networks don't have that stuff and it wouldn't maks since since
i am not using the university resources except for TCP/IP), and home.
thanks
