I am trying to install Microsoft Office 2000 on my new HP
computer but I do not know were my product registration
number is. I have both disks and I acquired Office, when
I purchased a Compaq about 4 yers ago. I still have the
Compaq Numbers but not Microsoft Office. Help!

Basically you're out of luck. No one on this newsgroup will tell you how to
get a new number and since you have posted without a valid email address no
one will be able to email you the solution either.

Martha,

It is not required that you use a "valid" email address when you post. In
fact, it is recommended that one *not* use a real email address due to the
fact the spammers are notorious for harvesting these addresses.

As to your question ... You may have some difficulty getting Office
installed on your new computer. If your copy of Office 2000 "came with"
(was pre-installed on) your older computer, it is likely that it is OEM
(Original Equipment Manufacturer) software. This software is permanently
tied to the computer with which it was sold and cannot be installed on
another.

I was only pointing out that if she had posted with a valid email address
then someone could have sent her the solution to her problem as when what
could be a solution was posted to the newsgroup, the person who posted the
solution was informed that what she was doing was not very ETHICAL???????
and might have breached some DRACONIAN rule as to what could and could not
be posted to newsgroups. However I believe that that person has been
suitably chastised and will no longer be posting information to newsgroups
that will allow people who have supposedly misplaced their CD Key to obtain
a new one without the hassle of telephoning a software company to obtain one
when all they had to do before was to go to a certain website which may or
may not be illegal but certain people believe it is to obtain a new serial
number. I also believe that this person will not reply to emails asking
where this information can be obtained but then again I could be wrong. This
email address will self destruct sometime tomorrow under the deluge of hate
mail and spam that will now be sent to it

Bye all until the next time I am let out of my cage, 555555
