Migrating Office XP Professional to new computer

G

Getting Old

I have Office XP Professional installed on a Sony notebook. I recently bought
another Sony notebook, faster, more memory and larger hard drive. Both are
home network connected. Using the Windows XP Home File Transfer Wizard I
transfered data files successfully. Then I went to install the Office XP 2002
Professional programs. When I noticed that the CD was an "upgrade" version I
thought that because I had transfered the data files I could get by. I moved
into a new house a year and a half ago and went through all of my old program
disks and cd's to cut down on what I had to take. The Office jewel case
showed: "Microsoft Office XP Professional, Version 2002" so I thought it was
a full version and I dumped all prior disks and cd's.
Is there any way I can transfer enough of the Office files on the old
computer to the new computer to satisfy the upgrade CD requirements and let
me install.
Or can someone give me a list of files to transfer from the old maching and
let the programs work? I found an old Certificate of Authenticity for
Microsoft Word 2000. I checked the upgrade CD but could not get a list of
Microsoft products that would satisfy. My new Sony is a factory referbished
which came with Microsoft Works Version 7.0 preinstalled; apparently that
does not qualify.

You need to have a qualifying program installed, or a CD for same to insert
when prompted. Word alone won't do it, if you're trying to install Office XP
Professional.
You need to find your original media for whatever was installed on your old
PC. You can't just copy files or registry settings.
