Migrating to Office 2007

Robert Murphy

Hi all

I'm upgrading my setup here, having bought a new hard drive on which I'll
put Office 2007. How do I go about transporting my Outlook Inbox from the
current drive, on which I run Office 2003? Exporting the address book seemed
fairly straightforward, but when I choose just the Inbox in the Import
Export... wizard I end up with a gigantic file - a bit bigger than the
entire ...\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst
file.

All I really need are the last few days emails anyway. The two drives are
plugged in at the same time to make migration easier (the old boot drive is
going to get reformatted as a storage drive once I've finished getting all
the stuff off it), so I flip between them in BIOS

Worse comes to worse I suppose I could forward anything I want to keep to a
frioend then get them to send them back. That seems a bit silly though.

If the search function in Outlook 2007 works better than it does in Outlook
03 it might be nice to keep the archive file too. Am I going about this the
wrong way - can I just copy the Outlook and Archive pst's to their new
location? I think I tried that once before and ended up with duplicate
folders.

So, how do I migrate stuff from Outllook 2003 to Outlook 2007 ?

Thanks
Rob

Why are you exporting anything? Simply copy the .pst file and place it on the new hard drive, being careful to NOT overwrite any existing .pst file, and open it using Outlook's File->Open->Outlook Data File. Do you import your Word documents to use in Word? No, you open them.

The .pst file is Outlook's native format - you don't import native formats, you simply open them.
