Milestones %Compl at Summary Level

I have a MS Project Plan that is made up of summary level
and milestones (see below). I am updating the %complete
for each milestone as it is done. I also use the Status
field in a view to report status to management. The
problem is at the Summary level (tasks) the status field
shows "Late" and the %complete is zero although the
milestones below are not late (see below).

Task Name Status %cmpl Start Finish
Summary One Late 0 02/12/04 02/20/04
Miles 1 Complete 100 02/12/04 02/12/04
Miles 2 Complete 100 02/14/04 02/14/04
Miles 3 Future Task 0 02/20/04 02/20/04

I would think that the summary level would at least show a
status of "On Schedule". Any ideas? Does anyone know how
the status is determined for a milestone and for tasks
with no work effort?

Thanks in advance,
Rhonda

Because you are only using milestones with the summary task, rather than
regular tasks, the % Complete for the summary task will not register any
value other than 0% or 100%. Furthermore, it will only register 100% when
all of its milestone subtasks are 100% complete as well. I think you were
probably expecting that the summary task would show 67% complete when two of
the three milestones are completed, but that isn't how it works. The reason
that the Status field is showing "Late" is because the summary task is 0%
complete as of the current date. Although this is probably not the answer
you were seeking, I hope it helps.

Hey This is simpl

Try having one day Duration for the milestones and Make that Activity a Milestone event ( By Clicking on Activity Information Icon >>> Advanced >>> Mark the Activity as Milestone. The activity symbol reverts back to a Milestone Symbol and at the same time it will pick up progress.
