Missing files office xp

Recently purchased "store display" HP laptop. Pre-
installed Office XP inoperative. No install disks. SP3
up-grade error message: "The expected version of the
product not found on this system". MS software on this
computer registered to store clerk. Have product code.
Cannot find way to reinstall.
