missing Microsoft Office Document Image Writer print driver

Does anyone know how to reinstall the Microsoft Office Document Image writer
driver. The printer driver was removed following Service Pack install in
Office 2003. Had no success with reinstallation or repair using original CD.
The driver remains as local printer port and is located in the \spool\driver
folder. Tried under different (new) user profiles as well. Tried attaching
to shared MDI network printer; limited success, attempted to reassign to
local port, but no file actually created.

Hi J.G.,

If you go to the Microsoft Office 2003 listing
in Add/Remove Programs and go the Advanced features
area is the Document Image Writer listed as available?

If so, do you have other 2003 standalone apps installed
such as FrontPage or OneNote and is the driver marked
as run from my computer in those as well & did you do
a repair reinstall on any of those apps?

I have luck doing the following:

1. Go to Control panel – Printer and fax
2. Add Printer – select local printer attached (Microsoft won't find
one but click thru to locate one manually.)
3. In the port option select Microsoft Document Image printer writer port
4. Select and install a generic manufacturer and use text only printer.
5. Right-click on the generic text/only printer driver and select
properties.
6. Click on ports and select "Microsoft office document imaging driver
port".
7. Click on the advanced tab and change the driver to Microsoft office
document image writer.
8. Click on apply and OK.

Good luck

Hi Jerothpe,

Check the Microsoft Office 2003 listing in add/remove
programs in the Windows control panel to see if that
feature is set to 'run from my computer'. If it is
you may need to run a repair/reinstall of Office from
the same location.
