Missing scanner in Office XP Document Scanning

J

John Switzer

I have Windows XP and MS Office XP Small Business installed. When you bring
up Office Document Scanning, there is no scanner listed. If you try to
select a scanner, none are listed. If you try to do a scan, there is an
attempt to initialize the scanner and then the message "Unable to initialize
scanner. Check scanner connection and scanner software ". Since the same
scanner does work with all other applications (including Word, Excel and XP's
standard scanning application) I would think that the connection or software
is not the issue.

I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled Office XP Small Business
without any change. This scanner did work at some point in the past, so
something has changed, but I have no idea what.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John,

If your scanner/all-in-one unit came with its own 'user interface' software and you pull up the scan preview then scan choice there
is there a choice for the 'send scan to' that includes the MS Office Document Scanning?

If your scanner includes an automatic document feeder those don't always play well with the Office XP scanner, especially if the
driver selected is the 'WIA' rather than the older style TWAIN driver for the scanner.
