Missing tables

Drew

Interesting problem here.
We have a Word file containing tables and everyone can see
them when they open the file except for one person.
Whenever he opens the file on his computer the text and
images are fine, but the tables are missing. I think the
problem may be a Word setting but I don't know what the
setting would be or even if that is, in fact, the problem.

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you mean he can't see the boundaries of the table cells, tell him to use
Table | Show Gridlines.

No, I mean he can't see the tables. At all. However, if he
opens the file as an attachment using Lotus Notes' "View"
feature, he can see it. It's only when he tries to open it
in Word that the problem occurs.

Are the tables in text boxes? If so, is he in Normal view?

Ran into this problem earlier today. Document is Word XP and the
table did not show up on two machines, but did on others. Finally
found out that an option needed to be checked under tools/options/view
tab under "Print and Web Layout" options. The "Drawings" option
needed to be checked. Then the table showed up. Also, when the table
was not visible, it did appear in the Print Preview screen. Still
seems odd that the table required a drawing option enabled, but maybe
this has happened to your document. Good luck. - Tammy

This will not be an issue unless the table is "wrapped," in which case it is
in the drawing layer. Ordinary tables are in the text layer and are visible
in all views. Wrapped tables and other "drawing objects" can be seen only in
Print Layout and Web Layout view, and then only if "Drawings" is checked.

It is very easy to make a table "wrapped" inadvertently if you work in Print
Layout view. If you touch the table handle, it is all to easy to nudge the
table accidentally. To restore it to In Line with Text wrapping, go to the
Table tab of Table Properties and select None instead of Around for Text
Wrapping.
