Modifying 'Task details Form' View in Project 2003

L

Lori LaBeau

Help! I would like to modify one of the items displayed
in the task details form. I can see how to modify FORMS,
but this isn't a form, it is a view. When I try to edit
the view, I cannot find a way to modify the content on the
form.

I would like to remove the WBS field and replace it
with 'Remaining Duration' field.

Can someone help me find this functionality?
Thanks,
Lori

Lori,
The Task Details Form IS a form, not a view. Views in Project consist of
a screen, a table and a filter. A form does not have a Table that would
allow the user to modify the graphical presentation.

Here is a wild idea though. You can create your own custom form that
replicates the built-in Task Detail Form. Then you can include any
fields you want.

Hope this helps.

OK, I buy that.... if I create a new form that replicates
the Task Detail Form, how do I bring it in as a view?

I am trying to get to the point where I have a tasks view
on the top window and this new custom form/view on the
bottom.....????

I would like to make this available to the entire
enterprise, so making it a form that only pops up with a
shortcut won't give me the end result I need with my group.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Lori,
Once the custom form is created it can be attached to any toolbar
button, menu item or subitem, or it can be incorporated into a custom
split view or simply made available as a screen type to create a view
(that sounds like what you want to do).

I haven't gone through the actual details but this process should get
you pointed in the right direction:
1. Create the form
2. Create a new single view with the screen type as your form. Note:
your form may need to be transferred to your Global via the organizer
before it will show up as an available screen type.
3. Check the box to show the new view in the menu

Assuming all that goes smoothly you should now be able to select your
new form as the bottom pane of a split window. To distribute it to other
users, use the organizer to copy the new view with the form and the new
form to a blank Project file and distribute it to other users. They will
need to load both the new view and form into their Global.

Give it a try. Let me know how it works out and if you have any other
questions, let us know.

Lori,

It's conincidental that I have been trying exactly the same thing. I'm using MSP 2000...and the main problem that I encountered was that, when using a Custom Form, it does not allow you insert the buttons called "NEXT" or "PREVIOUS". Therefore, you cannot move from task-to-task without closing-down the form and then re-opening it to display the data for the newly selected task......worra pain in the butt!!

Hi,

You can create a button, call it NEXT, and in its click event code write
whatever, such as reading the next task and changing the data displayed. I
fail to see why you should close and re-open the form.

I'mprobably over-optimistic in my previous post.
I was thinking of aVBA form, not one of the pre-digested ones.
Sorry fo rthe possible inconvenience.

James,
A "Next" and "Previous" button can be included on a custom form to do
exactly what you want. It has been a while since I did a custom form so
I would have to dig into my form/macro repertoire to provide an answer.
If someone else has a ready answer, please chip in, otherwise you can
contact me direct.
