More Mailmerge Problems

I'm running under XP SP2 and have recently upgraded from WORD2000 to WORD2007.

For a considerable period of time, I've successfully used WORD2000 mailmerge
to produce address labels (21 per A4 sheet) using a .txt file as my
datasource.

Under WORD2000, a simple setup procedure ensured that certain datasource
records could be precluded from the final merged document (eg if Field4 =
"C").

Having migrated, I've hit the following problems :-

1. On initiating the mailmerge, I received a message indicating that a SQL
command (to preclude Field4 = "C" records) would be invoked - good start, I
thought - but subsequently it proved to be untrue as Field4 = "C" records
appeared on the final document

2. Then I received a message that the datasource file could not be found.
Proceeding through the mailmarge setup, browsing for the datasource file, it
then became accessible to the mailmerge process.

3. As indicated in 1 above, the final document included unwanted records so
I then experimented with the mailmerge Rules in WORD2007.

Skip Record If... seemed to have no effect whatsoever
Next Record If... had a marginal effect. Some unwanted records were
eliminated, but only the first one if there were two or more lying
consecutively in the datasource file.

4. In WORD2000, a simple command in the mailmerge setup process enabled
blank lines in labels to be ignored (and following lines to be shunted up).
This process doesn't seem to have been "migrated" to WORD2007 and I can find
nothing in the ribbons or the wizard to effect this. Reference to the "help"
indicates a solution which can only be described as bordering on
"programming" but, surely, WORD is a high-level application that should be
usable by non-technical people?

5. I decided to start afresh and build the mailmerge entirely in WORD2007.
As well as not being able to solve most of the problems outlined above, it
introduced a further problem whereby the spacing between lines in the labels
was increased to an extent that the labels were not large enough to
accommodate the full address. Experimenting with the Change Styles / Stile
Set / Word 2003 did not solve the problem.

Amending the datasource file is not an option as it is used elsewhere and
will not solve all the issues anyway.

I've spent so much time trying to resolve these issues that I feel I could
have handwritten the 100 or so envelopes. I do so hope that there are some
experts out there that can help otherwise I'll have to consider the backward
step of re-loading and using WORD2000 just for this job.

Many thanks in anticipation

Don't use SKIPIF or NEXTIF - Instead from the mailings tab Edit Recipient
List > Filter and set a filter Field4 not equal to C
