Move an activated copy of Microsoft Office XP 2003 software?

A

Andrew Phillipo

Hi,

Simple question really - how can I move an activated copy of office to
another pc. i.e. remove it from one PC, install it on another, activate on
new PC. Will this work? Legally I must be allowed to move MS software or
have things really gone that far? The licensing proceedure alone could have
degrees dedicated to them!

Anyway - please someone help!

Thanks

The EULA will say whether it's permitted. If it is, then simply
uninstalling it from one PC and then reinstalling on the second PC will
work. If the network "activation" complains, use the phone method.

I'm not familiar with Office XP 2003 software. There is Office XP and
Office 2003.

Regardless of which one you have, if Office came preinstalled on your
computer (OEM) then it is licensed only to the computer in which is
was installed and can not be transferred. If you purchased a retail
version then typically the license is transferable. In that case it's
simply a matter of uninstalling and reinstalling.

However it's best to read your EULA to find out for sure. For Office
2003 Go to Help/About and click the link for "End-user license
agreement". For Office XP go to Help and you'll find the "End-user
license agreement" in the Help Contents. Then locate the section
titled "Software Transfer".

You can activate the same license number online about 6 or so times. then
it locks up and you have to call them to release it again.

I also need to move Office XP (2002) from a crashed computer to my new
Gateway. It was not an OEM installed program -- I still have the disks.
What is the "phone method" (What number do I call?) if I can't get it to
activate on the new computer?

When you install it, it will ask you if you want to activate it online or by
phone - select phone and it will give you the number to call.
