Moved Office stopped working

B

blather

I recently moved MS Office from my old PowerBook (G3, OSX) to my
new PowerBook (G4, OSX-same as old).

Entourage works fine.

All the other applications won't start. When I doubleclick the icon, I get
the opening ID window, then I get an error message that says the
application has unexpectedly quit.

I have reinstalled the entire package at least 3 times to no avail. I then
removed each application except for Entourage and installed them
individually. Now I get an error message that tells me the program can't
"load the Microsoft Office shared libraries". The ap is in the original
folder where it was originally installed and reinstalling gets me the
same message.

I'm an inch away from throwing Office away completely and using Open
Office. Can anyone help me?

If you physically moved the Office installation files and did not
reinstall Office then that is the problem. This is something you
simply can not do. The Office installation creates various Registry
entries and if they are missing or incorrect the applications will not
run correctly.

You should reverse what you have done and try installing Office from
the installation CDs.

Also note most of those who frequent this newsgroup use a PC rather
than a Mac. You might find folks more knowledgeable on your set up in
the Mac Office newsgroup. :)

First, where is the Mac Office newsgroup?

Second, I have deleted the files and reinstalled at least three times.
Nothing but entourage ever works. I'm not sure what you mean when
you say I should "reverse" what I've done. Could you explain? On a PC,
one can uninstall. Is there a program on the Office disk that will do this
for me? If so, will it leave all my Entourage mail and addresses as is or
will I have to remove the file completely from my computer?

thanks.

I am a mac user. Mac users rarely have to re-install software when they
upgrade to a new laptop. MS is the only software I know of that can't
simply be moved. I suspect this is because the application is not self-
contained, it seems to nest little files everywhere (something I do not
like at all).

However, after the first attempt was unsuccessful, I moved the entire
Office folder into the trash (again, this is how most Mac applications
work--no need for uninstallation), and reinstalled. I did this at least
three times (maybe four, I've lost track). Still, only Entourage works.

I have been told there is a mac users group on this site somewhere but
have yet to find it.

I'm not sure which portal you are using to access the newsgroups but
on the left under United States you should see a "Mac" branch.

If you would rather us Entourage to access the newsgroups then the
following link should start Entourage and add the Mac Office newsgroup
(I hope it will anyway! <g>):
