Moved outlook.pst file to new computer...2 personal folders

J

Jerry

On new laptop, running Windows XP Pro SP1, I installed
Outlook 2003 and allowed it to upgrade (now SP1). Old
laptop running Windows XP Home, Outlook 2003 pre-upgrade.
I copied the outlook.pst and archive.pst files from old
to new laptop.
New laptop shows TWO Personal Folders under "All Mail
Folders"...both seem to be identical. Cannot close
either. One has the Outlook home icon and other has files
icon.
Would love to get rid of second copy.
TIA
Jerry

You've damaged your mailprofile

Create a new profile (do not copy it);
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles

To access your current pst-file in the new profile;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

To set it as the default delivery location;
Tools-> E-mail Accounts...-> button Next-> use the dropdownlist below

Thanks Roady! this worked, with the caveat that it didn't
allow me to just select the old .pst file..i had to
import it into new profile.
But 40 minutes is EXCELLENT for free help!!

5 stars to Roady!

You can avoid this problem in the future by not overwriting a PST of the
same name.
