Moving Contacts to Exchange 2003 on Small Business Server 2003

I have a client that had an Oulook PST for their email. I have migrated them
to Exchange 2003, but I get an "unkown error" copying over their 159 contacts
to the exchange mailbox. I have used Outlook XP & 2003 and i have used
different computers. I exported them from the first PST file in to another
PST (a new empty one) same error. The only way I get all the contact is if i
export the contacts to some file type other han pst. The issue with this is
that it removes all the user defined fields that have very important
information.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
